Apple's Supply Chain and the National Interest

Thousands of businesses and millions of people in more than 50 countries and regions are part of Apple's supply chain. China has long been at the heart of Apple's much-admired supply chain. About 80% of the company's products are assembled there.

This article explores how the scale and complexity of Apple's supply chain influence global markets. Three months ago, Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, blamed supply constraints and a crisis in Shanghai for a revenue shortfall of $8 billion.

Apple stock has gained recently on news that the Cupertino company has been looking to diversify its supply chain. Apple announced in June that it will begin making its own chips, confirming insider predictions of a shift away from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
