Rowdy Tellez Assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats
Blue Jays Demote First Baseman
Move Comes Amidst Slump
The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned first baseman Rowdy Tellez to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, their Double-A affiliate. The move comes after Tellez struggled at the plate in recent weeks, batting just .200 with one home run and seven RBIs in his last 25 games.
Tellez, 29, was acquired by the Blue Jays from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade last offseason. He was expected to be a key part of Toronto's lineup this season, but has not lived up to expectations.
In 62 games with the Blue Jays this season, Tellez is batting .216 with six home runs and 27 RBIs. He has struck out 131 times in 282 plate appearances.
The move to the Fisher Cats will give Tellez a chance to regain his form. He has a track record of success in the minor leagues, batting .291 with 32 home runs and 100 RBIs in 229 games at Triple-A.
The Blue Jays hope that the move will help Tellez get his swing back on track. If he can return to his previous form, he could be a valuable addition to the Blue Jays lineup.
