Musical Legend Leaves Behind a Legacy of Innovation

Godfather of Blues Guitarists Nurtured Young Talents

WEB Cheryl Gerber for The New York Times John Mayall, the pioneering British bandleader whose mid-1960s blues ensembles served as incubators for a generation of groundbreaking guitarists, including Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor, died on Monday at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was 90.

The songs that John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers perform live vary, but here's the latest setlist that we have from the April 17, 1984, concert at the Forum in Inglewood, California:

  • Intro: "The Stumble"
  • "Room to Move"
  • "California"
  • "Parchman Farm"
  • "Chicago Line"
  • "24 Hours"
  • "Double Trouble"
  • "Have You Heard"
  • "Stormy Monday"
  • "Key to the Highway"
  • "Encore: "So Many Roads"

That's how the multi-instrumentalist John Mayall, one of the chief architects of the British blues revival of the 1960s, who died at 90, will be remembered.
